The Chimu Kingdom existed from approximately 850 to 1470 AD. These ruins of Chan Chan, constructed during the Chimu Kingdom, can be visited today. At Chan Chan there were workshops where people made textiles for the locals and also for exchange. They brought about extraordinary developments in metalwork. Gold, silver, copper and bronze were worked magnificently.

The current poplulation of Trujillo is about 1,000,000. It is located on the north coast of Peru. Its territory includes coast, highlands and jungle. People have lived in this area for thousands of years. Trujillo is a dry, arrid city with little rain. It is somewhat isolated. Its main crops are sugar cane, which accounts for 45% of the nation's production, and asparagus, at 48%.

In March 1824, Simon Bolivar arrived to Trujillo and installed the legal seat of the Peruvian government.
Approximately 20 miles West of Trujillo is the city of Huanchaeo, which is on the Peruvian coast.
