A Women's Refuge Village
Project New Hope International has plans to open a Women’s Village for the women of Trujillo who are in need of safety, care and counseling due to unfortunate circumstances they have encountered.
We plan to open a facility later in 2009 that will accommodate up to 70 women with individual living quarters for them and their children. All men will be prohibited from entering the guarded facility.
The facility will not be deluxe or even fancy because the women do not come from such environments. But it will provide immediate safety and then short, intermediate or long-term services to allow the women to return to society.
We are still planning our target population, but we will begin with physically abused women and eventually include some or all of the following groups: sexually abused women, unwed mothers, old/infirm homeless women, drug/alcohol abuse cases and possibly those escaping prostitution.
We will offer services in the area of medical treatment, psychological counseling, social adjustment counseling, legal counseling and most importantly, spiritual Christian counseling.
We will begin on a 1 hectare (about 2.3 acres) parcel in the city of Trujillo so we can provide easy access for the distressed women who need immediate safety and care for themselves and their children. We then plan to add a facility of about 10 hectares outside of town for longer range needs. Hopefully, in time we will add other villages in other locations, using this initial effort as a guide.
Our plan is to fund the construction and a portion of the first year’s operating costs and then let them rely on their own resources after that.
